Art in the Garden

I was invited to apply for "Art in the Garden" in McCall, ID July 26th and was accepted. You could set up 6 pieces for the silent auction show. Here is my "practice display in my back yard. My husband attached stakes to the bottom of each foot of the screen so it would not fall over in the grass.

Here is our actual set up in the garden, the night of the show.

Here is John Killmaster, an artist I admire and is also a member of BOSCO and TVAA. I told him he reminded me of Monet sitting under the tree with his beard and hat. Just a perfect setting.

A nice gathering despite many competing activities that night.

 SOLD!
I was asked if I could put a logo on the truck at a later date. I said yes.

SOLD!

It was a fun show and I would do it again.
Short and sweet is good. It ran from 5:00 - 8:00,
there was food, they handled the $ and it was in a beautiful setting with shade.

The Balance of Life and Art

1
The immensity of the canyon walls of Moab, Utah contrasted with our truck and trailer at our campsite.
"Newspaper Rock" supposedly 2,000 years of history (Canyonlands, Utah)

Riding Gemini Bridges trail

I just returned from a fabulous 3 week road trip through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. I road my bike in a 110 mile "Cino Heroica" ride in Northern Montana. We went to Estes Park and did some hiking/climbing and stayed with friends Gene and Denise. Then on to see our daughter in Denver. From there  we rode the awesome single track in Fruita, CO and then it was down to Moab Utah to meet up with David and Amy. We checked out the Bar M trails, the Klondike Bluffs and Gemini Bridges. We were going to go straight home from there but decided to stretch out the trip just a little bit longer and spent a day in Park City Utah. Their single track mountain bike trails are the only gold rated ones in the US, and now I can see why. Beautiful, and the trail up was one way, which made it really nice. We had a great ride! Celebrating my 53rd birthday in style. Then it was only a short drive back home.

So here comes the balance...It's hard to keep up on everything I am involved with in my art from the road.
1. I had my daughter mail my bike piece off to NYC for the World Bicycle Relief Project! The benefit gala is November 29 and I hope to attend!
2.  I tried to keep up best as I could with my obligations to Boise Open Studios which is coming up fast (Oct. 13 and 14) come see me!!
3. and for Treasure Valley Artist Alliance...our next meeting is tomorrow at the CAAC in downtown Boise...an artist panel...hope you join us!
4. I was featured on Seth's Blog!
5. I sold a piece of art at the C.W. Moore Building in Boise through the Gypsy Gallery show!
6. This Thursday is our BOSCO demonstrations at the Boise Art Museum.
7. Friday is the BOSCO opening at the Visual Arts Collective. ( I have 2 pieces in the show)
8. Sold a couple pieces at the Boise Art Museum Gift Shop and at Green Chutes!
9. I am doing a step by step painting class at my sister's Chocolate and Wine Festival in Texas, October  20th.

It's great to have a double life. Now it's time to stay home and clean the studio and get ready for the tours!

Capitol City Public Market

I haven't had a booth at the market for awhile. Then Treasure Valley Artist Alliance partnered with The Brick Oven Bistro to help manage 3 of the Art Tents.  Artists who are members of the alliance can set up in one of the booths for up to 3 times.  I chose this weekend as I thought, well by then it will be nice and warm! Boy was I wrong. At one point today I had on 5 layers of clothes including gloves and not one but two down jackets! On the positive side it didn't rain and the wind wasn't too bad. We had lots of people and lots of sales! I sold 3 of my newest pieces as well as some cards and one of my valentine projects- I almost left that one at home!

I had one lady come up and introduce her self to me, who had bought a piece of mine a few years back and says it is her favorite piece of art. I had another woman ask if I could do a custom assemblage with some "junk" she has and I said of course! And then quite a few people asked if I was at Green Chutes or Twigs and Twist as they recognized my style. It's nice getting the recognition.

The cutest story was a little boy that came up to my booth and slapped down a dollar and a penny, I looked at him and said "What is that for?" and he said "whatever I can get for it" I thought a moment and gave him a bag of ephemera that was marked at $2. He was extremely excited and ran over to show his family.  I hope he makes something with it.

At 6:30 this morning, I was having second thoughts about setting up today but now I can't wait to do it again!

How sweet is that...

So last night just after watching my newest Netflix rental (The Nanny Diaries) I went outside to clip it to the mailbox and when coming back in the house, I thought I saw something on the front porch. I bent down for closer inspection and it was a small red tricycle. A very weird thing to find but as an assemblage artist of found objects...voila...a found object, right on my doorstep! Thank you to whoever left it for me, that was a very sweet gesture.

Tonight I attended my first board meeting as an official board member of the new Treasure Valley Artist Alliance. What a great group of artists all volunteering to help other artists in the area. If you are an artist in the Boise area you should click on their website and plan to attend our next general meeting on March 1st.
