My Fifteen Minutes

This past week I traveled to NYC for the pART World Bicycle Relief event held on 26th st. in the heart of the Chelsea gallery district. We arrived early and were able to see the Chuck Close show just down the street.

Cedar Lake Theatre

I was very impressed with the lighting and display of the show.

My friend Rebeca Trevino, who had told me about the show won second place for the collage division! She was not able to attend so of course I had to call her immediately and tell her the good news.

These bicycle figures were made by a Zambian artist.

some of the other collages:

Mine on the left.  It was fun getting to mingle with the potential buyers and tell them about my piece.
As international a city as New York is, people seemed quite fascinated that Bill and I were from Idaho.  It was as if we were their first visitors from this faraway land.  The marketing director for SCRAM was in fact so intrigued that he called me up on stage to ask about how I ended up at the show.  It was fun sharing how my passion for biking and art came together for this unique event.  So I guess that was my 15 minutes that Andy Warhol predicted.

First Place collage division. It was very hard to get a good photograph of it.

This was the grand prize winning piece. The artist won a trip to Africa for 2.

Cuban Music, cocktails and good food.

When we stepped out in the cool evening the sram car was parked out front.
Interesting to see this in the middle of New York City, I'm glad the bikes were still there!

Happy Home

Happy Home 8" x 10" $100

I love all the layers in this piece. The base is a stretched canvas turned upside down. In the opening is a  wood /wax collage piece of women and children and dogs.  Next to the collage on the left is a miniature woman that looks like she is cleaning.  Above her is the letter H and the word Happy. On the right of the collage are game pieces that spell HOME.
The next layer is a piece of glass and then a window frame. On the window frame are two rusted keys and a little bitty bird. On top of the window frame is a small class jar filled with gold and silver beads.

The back is a finished collage.

What I'm Grateful For

"It is a miracle if you can find true friends, and it is a miracle if you have enough food to eat, and it is a miracle if you get to spend your days and evenings doing whatever it is you like to do, and the holiday season-like all the other seasons-is a good time not only to tell stories of miracles, but to think about the miracles in your own life, and to be grateful for them."
~Lemony Snicket, The Lump of Coal

This quote was borrowed from my favorite food blog The Noble Pig. I have not met the woman personally but she always has great stories, great photos and great recipes. She also owns and operates a vineyard in Oregon.  Some day I hope to be as great a blogger as she.

I have been grateful for the honors I have received lately...semi-finalist in the RAW competition, selection for pART in NYC and I recently found out one of my artworks was chosen for the cover of the Boise Weekly sometime in January.

Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition

A month ago I was asked by Star Moxley if  I would like to ba a part of a Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition at the Idaho Historical Museum. I said yes immediately.  Then after looking at the dates, I realized I would be out of town for the installation. I asked my daughter Katherine if she would be interested in collaborating with me and help to install it. She said yes, then I got it cleared with the museum. After several different ideas, I came up with this one with the help of my daughter.  This is to honor my father who passed away a few years ago.
This is what the display of niche's looks like. Above is Karen Bubb  installing hers.

The display is two sided, that is mine up on the top.

This is what the display looked like after Katherine installed it. I was afraid that you wouldn't be able to see the battery operated candle glowing but since each Niche is dark, it shows nicely. It's a Texas theme. With lots of yellow roses. The green bottle in the middle holds my dad's ashes. It is sealed with a cork that says "liberty" and on top of the cork is a pair of pistols because he loved Texas and guns.

Exhibit Dates: Oct 30th -Nov 10th (Friday, November 2nd is the opening).

Sippin 'n Paintin at the Chocolate and Wine Festival of Texas

My set up. I had a table to display my art and two tables for the classes.

The doors opened at noon and there was a rush. My two sisters, Dana and Leslie were just outside the door checking people in.

My sister Selina setting up the chocolate samples.

Chandelier of wine bottles.

Candy for Sale

More chocolate samples...

The festival continued out on the back patio

My first class consisted of these 2 nice ladies. They had pre- registered. One was from the area and the other had traveled all the way from Plano to take my class.

My third student was an hour late as she got stuck in traffic but we had a very nice time visiting, and  it was no problem getting her started as the others finished up.  She even made her strawberry look like it had been dipped in chocolate with a white drizzle. Her sister is a breast cancer survivor and she made a custom label for the bottle to show her support. "Always Fighting"
