Ice Dying

It's been almost a year since my last post and things are starting to get back to "normal."  I rather embraced staying home and looking after my health and creating in my studio without outside obligations. But also fun to get back out and this summer things kicked off with an in person art retreat ice dying fabric. Thanks so much to our host, Marianne!

The crews all here! Let the fun begin!

Working with caustic materials and powdered dyes

pour ice on top of the fabric in a pan or rack for the melted ice to drip through, then sprinkle the powdered dye on top

then let all the ice melt and work it's magic

checking if it's ready

aft3er 24 hours they are ready to wash

Success, out of the washer and ready to wear!

I love my little bitty handmade journal

This is my newest sketchbook. My friend Marianne at Great Wide Open Art  made it for me. Click on the link to contact her to purchase your very own. What I like about it is 1-its size, nice and small to fit in my travel case and that I can finish a painting in about an hour and 2 - that the pages are made with nice watercolor paper and 3- the closure on it is cute and works well.
I have taken it to TVAA Urban Sketching Events...

I've taken it camping at 10,000 ft.

It went to the Grand Canyon...

Utah desert...

Mountain Biking...

In our travel trailer...
And even to a wedding...

Coming soon...road trip and more adventures in the journal!

Buried Treasure

http://thealteredpage.blogspot.com/2012/07/its-still-life-chapter-6.html
If I had to name one blogger who has done more than anyone I know to help connect the mixed media art community it would be Seth of "The Altered Page." You would think that doing his blog is a full time job but yet he has a full time job, my guess is he doesn't sleep!

On Sunday 7-8-12, my response was featured along with a group of artists to the question “Photograph a still life that you create using an array of objects'  as part of the series ‘It’s Still Life’. He then links everyone's response to their blog. Here is the link: http://thealteredpage.blogspot.com/2012/07/its-still-life-chapter-6.html
Here is my ethereal still life that was featured. It was created while I was backpacking the Washington Coast. Nothing was harmed in it's creation and all was left to wash away,  except for the wonderful memories that will stay with me forever.

This week the Altered Page is hosting this clever idea, called buried treasure...where artists can link one of their favorite past posts. I sent him a link to one of my favorites, "Investigative Art." What is so great about these linked events that Seth shares are that all the great posts are easy to find and it's a great way for like minded people to find each other and share ideas, and their passion for creating. Thanks Seth! http://thealteredpage.blogspot.com/2012/07/buried-treasure-2012.html

So who do I have to thank for introducing me to this wonderful online community, well one of my best friends, fellow blogger and  mixed media artist- Marianne. Click on her name to see her new website. Thanks Marianne!
