The longest one month show ever

These are just a few of the mixed media pieces that were accepted into a one month show at St. Al's for the Month of March 2020. Then Covid 19 hit. Needless to say they don't want me in the hospital and I don't want to go in if I don't have to so... the show must go on....

The Glass Bottle - a True Story

A couple weeks ago there was a garage sale at a neighbors. John had just had his 99th birthday and I was worried that he had passed away. I wandered over there and found a picture frame and an old glass bottle for my art projects. The lady at the check out said he had gone to a nursing home and that he agreed to the church members holding the sale for him and all proceeds were to go to a lady at the church who had 6 kids and no car. What a nice gesture on his part!

Several weeks went by and I was trying to decide what to do with the items. The glass bottle had an inscription on it:  W H NYE Druggist Boise City, Idaho. I googled his name and found out he was buried in the Pioneer Cemetery B.1833-D.1894 Served with the Army of the Potomac. Honorably discharged shortly after Antietam. Druggist before the War in the East and afterwards in Boise, Idaho.

I knew the bottle was probably old but not over 125 years old!

I looked up the battle of Antietam and didn't find his name in the register so I contacted the webmaster that I had a name for him. He was thrilled to add Captain Nye.
I can't believe I helped add to a page on the Civil War. Here is the link: http://antietam.aotw.org/officers.php?officer_id=18134

Assemblage-en-Juin or Put-itTogether-June

Panel members introducing themselves to each other. Lots of assemblage art on display.
For a full description click on this link:

We had a full house!

The Panel discussion was on Monday night...

...then on Thursday night I was showing at First Thursday at Idaho Blueprint

On Saturday I met about 10 ladies and 1 gentleman at the Idaho Youth Ranch Outlet. For many of them it was their first experience and for others they came back for more fun.

Items are not sorted, the fun is digging through the bins to see what you can find.

"Hmm, I wonder how I could use this?"

"What do you think?"

Rows and Rows of stuff

This is what I bought for around $3

Then it was back to my studio to see what we could create with the items we found.

Most of the projects didn't get finished as they needed to be propped up to dry etc.
But they got a good start.
Some worked inside where it was a little cooler.

Who knew taking arms off Barbies was so hard...

We had to pull out the dremel.
I can't wait to see all the finished projects. The Next TVAA show  is in August called "Hunting and Gathering" I hope to see all of these pieces there.

This was a cool surprise I got in the mail the other day from one of my high school friends, Lisa. Thank You!

First Thursday in January

Tomorrow is the culminating show of my time as a Boise Open Studio (BOSCO) participant in the Artist in Residence (AiR) program.
I had one month residency in a really nice studio space in downtown Boise (BODO).
We are located just above Cafe Ole and across the hall from Bodovino. We will be open from 5-9 pm on Thursday January 2, 2014. I will be facilitating a make and take Artist Trading card activity and Bonnie with have the Red Light Variety performers posing for her project.

Wood floors, brick walls. and right across the hall from a brand new wine tasting room.

3 artists per month in the space with plenty of room to work uninterrupted. i.e. no computer to lure me....as well as ....

Plenty of room to display our art....

 Our signage...

I shared the space with Bonnie Peacher and Anne Sorensen, both local painters.

My goal was to complete a series of 12 -12" x 12" mixed media assemblage/collage based on mountain biking in different states out west. Below is my completed art. The only one missing is Arizona, which I unintentionally forgot to photograph.

Colorado

Idaho

Boise

Sun Valley/Ketchum

California

Utah

Oregon

Wyoming

Montana

Canadian Rockies

Getting Ready for Hyde Park Street Fair

So I have never even been to this event before but hear it is lots of fun. 2 stages of live music. This is the 30th anniversary of the street fair and it is a fundraiser for my neighborhood, so I am excited. They are expecting huge crowds and there will even be a bike valet, to encourage people to ride their bikes. The set up is Thursday at 6pm. And the fair runs Fri. from 5-10, Sat. from 10-10 and Sun. from 10-6. It will be an intensive weekend and I am sure I will be pretty tired come Sunday evening. I purchased a double spot and am sharing it with Photographer Michael F. and glass artist Lisa T.

Some of my new projects I will be showing this weekend are:

A wooden collaged key holder depicting our beloved town.
A "shrine" to good beer. For years I have collected miniature beer steins, then at the Tour de fat, I got the wrist band that says " I can drink good beer and have the ID to prove it." Then when we were at our friends Ben and Carrie's cabin, Ben was throwing out all the beer caps and I said "wait I want those!" and the piece came together.
We live at the foot of a ski hill. 16 miles straight up is Bogus Basin Ski Resort. I had to do a piece on skiing. Some of these miniatures I even saved from my trip to Europe.
Miriam, a fellow artist in the Gypsy Gallery has been cleaning out her studio and I have graciously accepted some of her castaways, One of them being this old movie canister. I found photos of old movie stars and glued them to the canister and then sealed the whole thing with a 2 part resin. Attached is a kaleidoscope, so I have named it the Kaleidoscope of Stars.
