Les Boise - SOLD

 Update on the BOSCO Show at BSU, I was grateful that I was able to attend the opening. Then just before the show closed I got a call from a woman wanting to buy my mixed media piece. Les Bois she was excited to meet me and to come see my studio. I love meeting people that are excited about my art, what I do and "get me"

My project is titled Pennies From Heaven. I did not personally know Bob but as an artist living in Boise for the past 9 years I admired his work.  After reading through Bob’s Art Farm website and learning about his interests and art projects, I was particularly interested in his and Jeanne’s Penny Project. I tried to figure a way to make my piece pay homage to Bob, be interactive and incorporate my love of using found objects. Bob is the angel and he his still making people happy tossing his pennies down from heaven.  I created my hanging piece by using found objects, mostly jewelry and added several good luck charms, including an elephant and a Hamsa to protect against the evil eye. I also glued pennies to it.  The angel made out of wire was found as is in the Owyhee desert.

I over heard Jeanne say after the show, "I wish I could buy all these pieces" that really touched me and I contacted her shortly after and invited her to come over and see my studio and come pick up her new piece. It made my heart happy.

The opening is this First Thursday, November 3 at Sola Salons, 1197 W. Main St in the Owyhee Plaza building, 6-9 p.m. for a Pop Up Art Show featuring the artists of Studio M. Wine available 6-8:30 from Syringa Winery.

Most Sundays for the past 5 years, artists Jaki Katz, Lynn Fraley, Marianne Konvalinka, Nancy Panganiban, Pam McKnight and Sue Rooke have gathered in Marianne's studio for art making and fellowship. The group works in a variety of media and styles, but our time together has influenced our work- we get input on sticky pieces, compare notes on media and learn from each other. This show brings together work from these artists and Lisa Cheney, also a Studio M regular.

Please join us First Thursday to meet the artists and view a variety of fine art- acrylic painting (Jaki Katz, Nancy Panganiban), assemblage ( Pam McKnight), ceramic (Sue Rooke), mixed media ( Lisa Cheney, Lynn Fraley and Marianne Konvalinka).

The show will be up during normal operating hours through January 2017.

Mini Cooper Assemblage commission

And last but not least I received a ride home from a friend in her mini cooper and we talked about how my dad was the 1970 mini cooper Champion racer. She said she has a friend that collects mini's and that would be cool if I could make a little assemblage to give her friend. I just so happened to have a mini. This one makes me smile and think of my dad. I love those easy commissions that just come together and make everyone happy.

July 2015 First Thursday Show at Boise Brewing

I got an email back in January that this new community supported brewery was looking for artists to show their work and design their posters and tap handle art for their beer of the month. I contacted them showed them some samples and was assigned the month of July. The opening was last Thursday.


I have got to say this was my funnest First Thursday Showing, so many friends came by to say hi and I had the whole top floor to myself so It was like I had my own private party. This was the second group of guests. On the couch with me are my studio gals, the other couch are my bike riding friends. Thanks to all that came out!

12" x 12" Mountain bike collages with bike parts 

One of a kind collaged cards, keychains and my email sign in book. 

This piece I wound up moving to another wall as I didn't want a rambunctious foosball player to bump into it. This is a collage on a round wooden table top with a bike wheel drilled into it, and it turns. 

You can see where I moved the wheel and I think it looks a lot better. The "glowing" on the bottom left are the posters designed by local artists for the beer of the month. Mine is on the right next to the couch.

This is the poster and tap handle label that I made for beer of the month. Warm River Wit- named after the smallest town in ID. Population 3. It is a Belgian style wheat beer. I didn't get to try it that evening as it wasn't ready yet. The posters are for sale at the Brewery for $10 artists do not get a portion of those sales but we don't have to pay any commission or fee for having the show.

My pieces will be up through the end of July 2015 so if you get a chance go by Boise Brewing at 521 West Broad St. next to the Boise Weekly.

Bike Art for the Garden

Last night I hosted a meeting of "Art Project Boise" on my back deck.  A nice little group. Each month a word prompt is put out for inspiration and then members show up for a sort of "show and tell" Since it was at my house my 5 minutes stretched into showing almost every piece I've ever made. :)

In conjunction with TVAA I will lead an introduction to the Idaho Youth Ranch Outlet. If you would like to attend with other local artists meet in the parking lot on Irving St. at 10:15. 

At noon those that sign up will meet up at my studio and turn those objects into a work of art!

First Thursday in January

Tomorrow is the culminating show of my time as a Boise Open Studio (BOSCO) participant in the Artist in Residence (AiR) program. 

I had one month residency in a really nice studio space in downtown Boise (BODO). 

We are located just above Cafe Ole and across the hall from Bodovino. We will be open from 5-9 pm on Thursday January 2, 2014. I will be facilitating a make and take Artist Trading card activity and Bonnie with have the Red Light Variety performers posing for her project.

Wood floors, brick walls. and right across the hall from a brand new wine tasting room.

 3 artists per month in the space with plenty of room to work uninterrupted. i.e. no computer to lure me....as well as ....

 I shared the space with Bonnie Peacher and Anne Sorensen, both local painters.

My goal was to complete a series of 12 -12" x 12" mixed media assemblage/collage based on mountain biking in different states out west. Below is my completed art. The only one missing is Arizona, which I unintentionally forgot to photograph.

Gypsy Gallery Pop Up

Gypsy Gallery returns First Thursday, March 7 from 5-10 pm! Our location this time is the beautiful Crystal Ballroom on the second floor of the Hoff Building, corner of 8th and Bannock.
 
Join us for fine art from local artists Jenifer Gilliland, Marianne Konvalinka, Kevin Flynn, Amber Day, Pam McKnight (me), Kelly Beach, Laura Stewart, David Day, Cindy Wolff, Kelly McKinley Stribbling, Kearney Thompson, Emmy Lou Rogers (the Surly Mermaid), Kay Coughran, Barbara Harrison, David Scott, Bonnie Peacher, Nancy Panganiban, Vickie Stevenson, Susanne Lomatch, Debbie Weisel and Lauren Kistner. Media represented ranges from pottery to jewelry to photography, watercolor, oils, quilling, assemblage, mixed media collage..... something for everyone!
 
Music for the evening will be provided by Ryan Wissinger ( 6pm), Blaze N Kelly (7:15 pm) and Gayle Chapman (8:30 pm). There will also be a no host bar.
 
All of this fun is free!
 
Gypsy Gallery is a group of local artists who put on pop up art shows in various venues throughout Boise about 4 times per year. 
 

Aspen First Thursday...Not so much....

First Thursday in Boise is a big deal. Lots of shops and galleries and restaurants and all manner of businesses downtown are open late, have special deals or special events, offer wine tastings, snacks and live music. Not to mention all the familiar faces and friends to be seen on every corner and in every venue.

So when I happened to be in Aspen this last week and saw a banner across the main street in town, touting First Thursday,  I was like " WOW," this is gonna be great!

Now we weren't actually staying in Aspen, so this required a special trip back into town for the festivities. I first went to the tourist "information booth" and this should have been my first clue that something was up, when I asked her about information for First Thursday she looked puzzled and disappeared into the back for a minute and then handed me the generic map pictured above. Stating "Tonight and every First Thursday beginning at 3pm."

So I set off for the first gallery. I walked in amidst, piles of wrappings and hammers and saws and packages and I said "are you open?" and they said oh, yes, excuse the mess, we are getting ready for an opening on Saturday. and I said, Oh, I saw you on the First Thursday map and they said " oh, is that today? Well we are busy getting ready for this big show coming up...."

On to the next gallery...we walked in- nice art, saw one show coming down and another going up... asked the gallery owner about First Thursday. Her response, "Oh, is that today? We really don't pay any attention to it as we have customers all the time and don't really need to do anything special to draw them in."

Next gallery, "oh I don't think that starts until 5..." Strange but we were the only ones visiting most of the galleries that afternoon.

Well, my husband and I went on and saw lot's of nice art ... but nary a glass of wine, nor cheese, nor cracker, nor live music was to be found.  I'll take First Thursday in Boise any day.
